ATLANTA — The Food and Drug Administration upgraded a recent recall of Kirkland Organic Eggs sold at Costco to the highest health hazard.9*9

As Channel 2 Action News previously reported, the eggs were recalled voluntarily due to the risk of salmonella exposure at the end of November.

Now, the 24-egg packs sold at Costco in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee have been upgraded to a Class I hazard.

A Class 1 hazard means a product presents “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of, or exposure to, a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”

Previously, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a recall for nearly 11,000 retail units of organic eggs were being recalled due to potential salmonella contamination.
