ATLANTA — The nation is preparing to say its final goodbye to former President Jimmy Carter.
The 39th President of the United States passed away at his home in Plains, Ga. on Sunday, Dec. 29. He was 100.
On Saturday, a motorcade escorted former President Carter from Plains to the Carter Center in Atlanta. The Carter family traveled with him and arrived just after 3:30 p.m.

2:20 p.m. - The motorcade continues journey to Atlanta
The motorcade is continuing its journey to Atlanta. Former President Carter and his family are currently passing through Forsyth, Ga.
11:00 a.m. - The motorcade departs Archery, Ga. for Atlanta
The motorcade has departed the former president’s boyhood home and is making former President Carter’s final journey to Atlanta.
They are expected to arrive at the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta around 3 p.m.
10:56 a.m. - National Park Service rings bell at boyhood home
The National Park Service is ringing the bell at Carter’s boyhood home 39 times in honor of the nation’s 39th president.
The former president’s boyhood home has been designated as part of Jimmy Carter National Historic Park.
10:55 a.m. - Motorcade arrives at Carter’s boyhood home in Archery, Ga.

10:47 a.m. - Motorcade arrives in Plains, Ga.
The motorcade is making its way through Plains, Ga., former President Carter’s small hometown where he lived until his death.

The motorcade has departed Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia for his boyhood home in Archery, Ga.
10:23 a.m. - Pallbearers place casket in hearse
Pallbearers carry former President Carter’s casket to the hearse at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.
The pallbearers are made up of a group of current and former Special Agents in Charge from the United States Secret Service – Carter Protective Division.
10:15 a.m. - Carter family arrives
The Carter family arrives at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.
After his arrival at the Carter Center, the public will have the opportunity to pay their respects to the beloved former president at the Carter Center as he lies in repose from 7:00 p.m. on Saturday until 6:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
On Tuesday, former President Carter will travel to Washington, D.C. where he will lie in state in the Rotunda of the U.S. Capitol.
His state funeral is scheduled for Thursday, which President Joe Biden has declared a National Day of Mourning. After that ceremony, he will make his final journey to his hometown of Plains for a private burial with his family.
Here’s the schedule of events for Saturday:

10:15 a.m. – The Carter Family arrives at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in Americus, Georgia.
10:20 a.m. – Carter’s remains are carried to the hearse by current and former Special Agents in Charge from the United States Secret Service – Carter Protective Division.
10:30 a.m. – The motorcade departs Phoebe Sumter Medical Center and travels through Carter’s hometown of Plains, Georgia.
10:50 a.m. – Carter and his family arrive at his boyhood home for a brief pause in front of the family’s farm. During the pause, the National Park Service will honor the late president with a salute and ringing of the historic farm bell 39 times.
10:55 a.m. – The late president officially begins his final journey to Atlanta.

3 p.m. – The motorcade arrives in Atlanta and pauses at Georgia’s State Capitol for a moment of silence by Gov. Brian Kemp, Lt. Gov. Burt Jones, Mayor of Atlanta Andre Dickens, members of the Georgia Legislature and Georgia State Patrol Troopers.
3:05 p.m. – The motorcade departs for the Carter Presidential Center.
3:45 p.m. – Carter’s remains are carried into the Carter Presidential Center during an arrival ceremony.
4 p.m. – A private service at the Carter Presidential Center.
7 p.m. – Lying in Repose begins. Mourners are invited to come and pay their respects.
