CUMMING, Ga. — Nailah Smith said her latest work of art had to be perfect.
The Savannah College of Art and Design graduate was commissioned to create a mural of Channel 2′s Jovita Moore, who died of brain cancer last fall.
“I feel really excited and honored to be able to paint her, but I do feel pressure, simply because she’s so beautiful. I wanted to make sure I captured that beauty in the painting,” Nailah said.

The mural covered three large plate glass windows at the offices of Orange Leaders in Cumming as part of a tribute to celebrate Black History Month. Nailah said it took two days to complete.
“I got so many amazing reactions the whole time I was doing it. It’s actually the reason I love doing murals, because people interact with you when you do them, versus when you’re painting a painting at home all by yourself,” Nailah said.

Because it was on glass, the mural was meant to be temporary. Nailah hopes someone who admired the painting would like her to do it again.
“I would love to paint Jovita Moore permanently somewhere. That would really by an honor. Perhaps a brick wall outside where it can stay forever. I would love to do that,” she said.
