Several Atlanta fire stations temporarily shut down due to lack of equipment, staffing

ATLANTA — At least three metro Atlanta fire stations are temporarily shutting down because of a shortage of equipment and staffing, according to Atlanta fire officials.

Other stations have equipment and vehicles that have been repositioned.

Channel 2 Action News previously reported that a third of the City of Atlanta fire trucks and engines are currently out of service.

According to the data, 17 of the city’s 31 fire engines and trucks are out of commission, which is more than a third of the city’s main fleet. Many of the trucks are in for repairs, but those repairs at times have taken months.

Channel 2′s Michael Doudna was outside a closed-down station on Howell Mill Road on Monday, where there were no trucks, engines or firefighters in sight.

There is some good news: According to Atlanta Fire, three brand new pumper trucks should be delivered by the end of the month, with several more engines and trucks to be delivered over the next year.
