ATLANTA — Family and friends gathered Sunday to remember an actress and model on the anniversary of her death.
Jokisha Brown, 35, was shot and killed while sitting in her SUV outside a strip mall on Cheshire Bridge Road on July 1, 2016.
She was killed the day before her 36th birthday.
Friends say Brown was an actress, model and mother of a teenage son.
“She was a great person. She had a good heart,” said Jermaine Brown, the victim’s brother.
Tavia Marshall, who spent the day with Jokisha Brown before she died, opened up to Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez about the painful loss of her friend.
“I just never knew pain like this, until now,” she said. “Pictures can’t describe her inner beauty. She was just so beautiful, so loving and so giving.”

Police say Alfredo Capote, who was the victim’s boyfriend, is a person of interest in the case.
He was arrested in Louisiana earlier this year on unrelated charges.
Capote is accused of attacking Brown months before her death.
“I am really just praying for justice,” Marshall said.
Family and friends released lanterns in Brown’s honor Sunday night, which they said are reflective her light that continues to shine.
The case is still under investigation.
