ATLANTA — Experts say that single women are buying homes more in Atlanta than anywhere else in the country.
A study from Better.com and Compass Real Estate published Wednesday listed the top 10 cities for single female homebuyers, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
According to the report, 1 in 5 homebuyers nationwide are single women. Historically, women have earned less income than their male partners and have been denied mortgages at a higher rate.
But that's all changing. Women are now increasingly out-earning their partners.
In Atlanta, more single women are being approved for mortgages than in any other city, the report found.
“Women understand that buying a home is more than securing a place to live, but is an investment in their future that can ultimately be passed on to their family or play a significant role in their retirement. I personally can think of few things more impactful on my life than the equity I have from purchasing my first or current home,” Monique Williams, a Compass agent in Atlanta, said in a release.
