Snow, sleet or ice? Where you live will impact what kind of winter weather you will see Friday

ATLANTA — Regardless of where you live in North Georgia, you are going to be impacted by the approaching winter storm.

But people living in the North Georgia mountains are going to see different types of precipitation that those who live in the south Atlanta metro.

Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz has been tracking the storm all day and said if you live in the far North Georgia Mountains, you’re mainly going to get snow.

“Mainly a wet snow, maybe some sleet, but mostly frozen. But that’s going to lead to accumulations to 2-3, isolated 4-inch totals or higher in the higher peaks of the North Georgia mountains,” Nitz said.

Most of the metro area will see a combination of wintery weather on Friday.

“We’re going to start in the morning with snow and sleet, and that changes over to freezing rain,” Nitz said.

Nitz said that could lead to an accumulation of ice, with up to 1/3 of an inch. The northern metro could see up to 2 inches of snow, but those totals will go down the further south you go.

Farther to the south, people there will get snow and sleet early, with it changing over to rain later in the day.
