ATLANTA — Travelers who had their flights delayed or canceled at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Christmas Eve were happy to hear that they would be compensated for the inconvenience.
But when it comes to Christmas Eve, many folks would rather be with their loved ones than have that money back in their pocket.
Some travelers who spoke with Channel 2′s Tyisha Fernandes were pleasantly surprised by the lack of crowds at Atlanta’s airport.

“So far it’s been calm. It’s not crowded. Not as crowded as I thought it would be,” Tina Jackson said.
When Jackson made her way to the airport on Christmas Eve, she thought the drive from Douglas County to Clayton County would be a mess.
But her drive ended up going smoothly. She now thinks most people are already at their holiday destinations.
“I did see a lot of cars driving on Sunday. The highways were packed over the weekend,” she said.
American Airlines scared some travelers on Christmas Eve morning when they grounded all flights briefly.
They said a technical issue was to blame.
Francis Benson was traveling via American Airlines, taking his wife and daughter on a tour of Europe to celebrate his wife’s 60th birthday.
They’re headed to England, France, and Italy.
Delays haven’t affected them yet, but even if they do they’re keeping a positive attitude.
“No matter what we go through in life, if they hand you lemons, make lemonade,” Benson said.
