ATLANTA — Neighbors in southwest Atlanta are on high alert after police said a dangerous man assaulted a woman in her own home.
Atlanta police detectives went door-to-door Tuesday with a sketch, warning everyone, especially young women.
The victim told police the assault happened May 31 after the man broke into her unit at Colonial Square Apartments.
She gave police a detailed description of the attacker, saying he had a tattoo on his left arm and was missing one or two of his front teeth.
“It could’ve happened to me,” neighbor Shay Baker said. “Be safe. Be careful. Don’t trust anybody."
Baker has three young children, including a 4-month-old, so she said she's taking no chances.
"A detective knocked at my door," neighbor Oria Burnett-Troutman said.

Burnett-Troutman said she's never seen the man in the sketch but already has a safety plan in place because she walks to the bus stop every night.
“My grandson, he meets me here at night now," Burnett-Troutman said.
Channel 2's Audrey Washington showed the sketch to a man at the complex. He did not want to be identified but said the sketch looks like a man he's seen around the area.
“Yeah, I’ve seen him around. I can’t say where," he said.
Washington tried to speak with the manager at the apartment complex Tuesday, but a person in the office told her the manager was not in.
As for the investigation, police said it’s a priority.
They’re offering a reward for any information that leads to an arrest.
Detectives hope video and the newly released sketch will drum up some clues in the case.
If you have any information, you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at 404-577-TIPS. You could help prevent someone else from being attacked.
