DAHLONEGA, Ga. — If you’ve ever visited Dahlonega, you are well aware of its charm. That’s why the North Georgia gem has been named Georgia’s Best Small Town by Southern Living.
The picturesque downtown square features stores and restaurants that feature something for everyone.
“There’s something special about this place,” business owner Tony Owens told the magazine.
“Whether your perfect day involves wading knee-deep in the river panning for gold, strolling through art galleries, shopping in one-of-a-kind boutiques, or sipping perfection expressed in Georgia wine, Dahlonega is guaranteed to please,” Discover Dahlonega said on its website.
THINGS 2 DO AROUND ATLANTA:
- One-of-a-kind Atlanta movie theater offers awesome old flicks, more
- These are the best waterfalls across the Southeast -- including a big one in Georgia
- Nature of Color at Fernbank: Is red powerful? Is blue calming? What do colors make you feel?
The square is one of several reasons as to why people flock to Dahlonega. Another reason: wineries.
The foothills of the North Georgia mountains have the perfect conditions to grow grapes and make wine.
“There’s a Dahlonega winery for every mood. Cuddle up by a fire at Livingston’s stylishly rustic place—she’ll come check on you and see if you need anything (you won’t). Sit on the porch at Wolf Mountain to enjoy a casual lunch, a glass of the brut rosé, and an incredible scenic view. You can visit Montaluce Winery & Restaurant or Kaya Vineyard and Winery for elegant experiences that may involve an Atlanta Falcons football player sighting (according to locals). No matter which spot you choose, rest assured that the person serving your vino will know exactly where the grapes were grown,” Southern Living said.
