ATLANTA — The Super Bowl host committee said they need more volunteers to help with the event despite the fact that thousands have already signed up online.
Channel 2's Dave Huddleston spoke to officials at the Georgia World Congress Center where they will soon close the volunteer sign-up.
Officials said over 31,000 people have signed up online, but many haven't completed the in-person interview process.
Volunteer coordinator Lee Hendrickson said about a third of those who have applied haven't finished the process to sign up for an interview by Aug 31.
Hendrickson said she's confident she won't have to open the process back up to the public, but people who have signed up need to sign up for interviews soon.
"We feel really good where we are now," Hendrickson said. "We think we're going to trend and nail it right at the end with the number that we need."
The 10,000 volunteers will be stationed all around the city the weekend of Super Bowl 53.

Officials said the interview process is only about 30 minutes, but Hendrickson said the interview is crucial.
"The interview is a critical time for them to get to know the program, for us to get to know each individual and to make sure there's that solid fit," Henderickson said.
Once volunteers complete an interview, they will also have to go through a background check.
At the Georgia World Congress Center, volunteers like Carol Rugg waited for her interview at Team ATL. Rugg said she wants to show off Atlanta's southern hospitality.
"What they'll remember are the people," Rugg said. "The game probably won't be as well-remembered as how friendly or helpful we were. So I want to be a part of that."
Huddleston saw 100 people signed up for the 3 p.m. interview slot, but only counted about 40 people in line.
Steven Spencer said he flew in from Denver for a chance to volunteer at Super Bowl 53.
"Man, just to be a part of it," Spencer said. "That's it. They could put me anywhere and I'll love it."
