Mike Shields and Triple Team Traffic kept drivers up to speed on the massive backups Thursday morning on I-75 after overnight work did not wrap up on schedule.
“Normally the schedule is overnight work. Those are from 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. on I-75 inside the perimeter. Late this morning, it didn’t wrap up. Crews are still actively working on I-75 southbound right at Moore Mill Road. Three left lanes were blocked and really started impacting the morning drive, the later construction stayed out,” Shields said.
Cones were still in place hours after the roadwork was supposed to be complete.
“When they went past the 5 am mark, it started getting a little suspicious about what was going on here. Of course, we use our network of traffic cameras to see that it was still a lot of activity going on,” Shields explained.

Channel 2 Action News talked with the Georgia Department of Transportation Natalie Dale who confirmed in a statement:
“Our contractor working on I-75 made an error in material application, which required additional materials to rectify. The time to obtain and apply necessary materials took 4 hours past the time allowed for the permitted closure. The contractor will be assessed appropriate fines, per the contract, for each hour past the permitted closure hours.”
