ATLANTA — A driver who sped away from police after hitting several of their patrol cars probably thought he got away with it. But Atlanta Police’s Phoenix helicopter was on top of him the whole time.
East Point police and the Georgia State Patrol were attempting to pull over a white Jeep Cherokee on Camp Creek Parkway on Feb. 18.
Video released by APD shows the Jeep crash ram the officers’ patrol cars at a gas station before the driver sped off.

Video taken from the helicopter shows the car speed down the highway. At various points during the chase, the driver drives on the median and on the grass, weaves through traffic and blows traffic lights. All the while, Phoenix follows the vehicle and provides officers with directional updates.

Georgia State Patrol and the East Point Police Department followed the driver on the ground.
The suspects made it all the way to McDaniel Street, about 10 miles away, when the driver crashed into two parked cars. The driver and a passenger jumped out of the Jeep and ran.

Both suspects were taken into custody. The passenger was charged with obstruction. The driver was charged with various crimes by the East Point police.
