ATLANTA — A Southwest Airlines flight was the setting for a good, old-fashioned whodunit last weekend.

Jennifer Schaper says she was on a flight leaving from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on April 15 when someone spilled a large amount of rice in the aisle.

She says the flight attendant delayed the flight from taking off until someone claimed the spilled rice and cleaned it up.

“The flight attendant screamed, ‘who spilled rice?’ and is walking up and down the aisles. They are refusing to leave the gate until someone cleans the rice,” Schaper wrote in a series of tweets.

She said eventually a flight attendant got a broom and cleaned the rice up herself.

“She has let us all know that we were not raised right and she is disappointed in all of us,” Schaper wrote.

Channel 2 Action News reached out to Southwest who did not deny the incident. They instead released a statement that read:

We do not have any irregularity reports or specifics surrounding the passenger claims. It’s not unusual for a flight attendant to tidy the aircraft prior to departure, when needed.

“The over-dramatization of the whole event made it more comical than anything - coupled with the fact that we were further delayed by an oblivious passenger who took advantage of #RiceGate to use the bathroom and further delay the flight,” Schaper wrote.

It’s still unclear who spilled the rice.
