Wind advisory in effect for all of north Georgia

ATLANTA — A wind advisory is in effect for metro Atlanta until 10 p.m. Thursday after strong storms Wednesday.

Atlanta set a daily record for rainfall Wednesday at 4.27 inches.

Flood warnings were slowly being canceled Wednesday, but some are still in effect.

The saturated ground, combined with wind gusts of more than 35 mph have lead to more downed trees Thursday.

A toppled tree shutdown Northside Drive and brought down power lines.

Another tree fell along West Wesley Road in Buckhead, blocking the west bound lane Thursday afternoon.

Other than the wind, temperatures will run substantially cooler Thursday, topping out in the 50s, Severe Weather Team 2 meteorologist Katie Walls said.

In Roswell, the wind took down power lines along Grimes Bridge Road at Oxbo Road.

Friday and especially Saturday mornings will start off with widespread upper 30s.

Highs will rebound back into the upper 60s Saturday afternoon and into the 70s by Sunday, Walls said.

She said she does not expect rain in the forecast until mid-next week.
