Woman arrested after stealing $1 million in jewelry from safe at Buckhead hotel, police say

ATLANTA — Police have arrested a women they say stole a million dollars worth of jewelry from a room safe from a Buckhead hotel room.

Police said they were called to reports of a robbery on June 26 at the Westin hotel on Peachtree Road. The victim said that he met a woman who called herself “Sasha” at Hide Kitchen & Cocktails on Roswell Road.

The victim said that he took the woman back to his hotel room. When he woke up, all of his jewelry had been stolen from the room’s safe.

The victim told police he believe he was drugged and that he is certain he locked the safe before he went to sleep.

The victim said “Sasha” stole six chains, five bracelets, a Rolex watch and two charms.

Police were able to review surveillance footage that showed “Sasha” and the victim in the hotel lobby. The victim was brought in for a photo line up, where he was able to identify Shirley Azambuya, 24, as the woman he met.

Police determined that Azambuya was also involved in a similar case.

Azambuya was arrested on a warrant on July 7 and turned herself in to the Fulton County Jail.
