ATLANTA — A woman was killed overnight after getting hit by a man suspected of driving drunk on Langford Parkway in southwest Atlanta, police said.
The fatal crash occurred just after 2 a.m. Friday near the intersection of Dodson Drive, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Anthony Grant said.
When police arrived, they discovered the body of a dead woman in the roadway.
Authorities said the driver who hit her, identified as 42-year-old Alvin Williams, initially left the scene of the wreck before returning later.

“He stated to officers that he originally left the scene because he was not sure what he struck in the roadway,” White said. “During the course of the investigation, officers noticed the driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.”
Police said when Williams returned, he smelled like alcohol and struggled to keep his balance. Officers gave him a field sobriety test and confirmed he was intoxicated, White said.
Williams was charged with DUI less safe, hit-and-run/failure to aid and first-degree homicide by vehicle, police said.
Authorities have not identified the pedestrian who was killed.
The wreck shut down all eastbound lanes for hours as police investigated. The road reopened about 5:30 a.m.
