ATLANTA — An Atlanta woman risked her life to save her dog from a burning home.

Cassandra Allaire said she woke up Wednesday morning to find the candle tipped over and a fire quickly spreading.

She tried putting it out with a fire extinguisher, but when she couldn't extinguish it she ran outside.

Allaire realized her dog, Little, was still inside, and fought her way back inside through smoke and flames to rescue her.

“All I could see were flames, but I knew my dog was still in there and there was no way she was going to come to me through the flames, so I went in to find her,” she said.

Allaire has minor burns on her hand and back and said she was treated for smoke inhalation. The dog is OK.

‘We’re both very lucky to be alive. It could have gone a lot different,” she said.

Allaire’s boyfriend was out walking the couple’s other dog at the time of the fire. He came back and the fire department was on the scene.

“When I got back, it was already out. I just saw the aftermath. It was crazy,” Mike Lindsey said.

Channel 2's Chris Jose learned that when the couple returned later to assess the damage, someone had stolen some of their personal belongings.

The couple has set up a GoFundMe page if you would like to help.
