BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have had a season few anticipated and are looking to score a bowl game win on Friday afternoon in Birmingham.

Tech and the Vanderbilt Commodores are facing off in the Birmingham Bowl at Protective Stadium.

But they’ll have to do so without two of their top defensive players. Both linebacker Kyle Efford and nickel back Rodney Shelley are sitting out of the game because of injury.

Georgia Tech’s last game saw them narrowly fall 44-42 to the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs after eight OTs at Sanford Stadium in Athens.

They are also coming off upset wins against Miami and a come-from-behind win against North Carolina State to finish the regular season 7-5.

Since those games, Tech has given Head Coach Brent Key Athletic Director J. Batt a raise and a contract extension.

The Birmingham Bowl kicks off at 3:30 p.m.
