ATLANTA — Zoo Atlanta said it will close on Dec. 23 and Dec. 24 because of the predicted cold temperatures across the state.
Severe Weather Team 2 Chief Meteorologist Brad Nitz says a wind chill watch has been issued from midnight Thursday through noon on Saturday.
Nitz added that hypothermia is a major concern.
Anyone who has purchased tickets for IllumiNights: A Chinese Lantern Festival presented by Georgia Power will be contacted for rescheduling.

As for the animals, Zoo Atlanta said preparations for the cold weather include “shifting or moving animals into indoor areas and/or providing access to supplemental heat, nesting, or burrowing materials, depending upon the needs of the species and individuals.”
Gov. Brian Kemp has also said he will declare a state of emergency for Georgia as the state braces for the coldest temperatures in nearly five years.
The state of emergency will allow for essential supplies, especially propane, to be delivered for both commercial and residential needs.
The zoo said it will also be closed on Christmas Day, which is part of their normal schedule.
