HALL COUNTY, Ga. — Channel 2 Action News crews saw parents picking up their children Monday morning after learning of a threat that was sent to a Hall County high school.
Hall County school officials assured parents and students that there was no danger, but more than half the students in the school decided not to take any chances.
"Everybody was freaking out about it. So now, everybody is leaving," student Rebecca Swenson told Channel 2's Tom Regan.
Channel 2 received a copy of the Twitter post that sparked the scare. It said, "And a group of about 10-15 kids are planning on shooting up the school." Flowery Branch High School Principal Mark Coleman said an investigation is under way, but there is no evidence of danger.
"At this point, we don't have anything to validate that there was an actual threat, beyond the chatter, Internet chatters," Hall County School spokesman Gordon Higgins said.
The district superintendent called in law enforcement to investigate the threat. They interviewed students who received the message when it was sent out early Monday morning.
