Bartow County sheriff's deputy accused of driving drunk

BARTOW COUNTY, Ga. — A Bartow County sheriff’s deputy was arrested Sunday on charges of driving drunk.

According to a police report, Brandy Kottemann left the Tokyo Japanese Steakhouse on Church Street around 8 p.m.

An off-duty Marietta police officer called police to tell them that Kottemann appeared to have had too much to drink before she left.

The officer said he told Kottemann that she should not be driving.

A Bartow County police officer spotted Kottemann’s car and saw her driving on the shoulder and on the wrong side of the road at times.

The police report said she was pulled over on South Erwin Street.

The officer said he smelled a slight odor of alcohol from Kottemann’s car and noticed her slurred speech and heavy-lidded eyes.

According to the police report, when the officer asked Kotteman to step out of the car, she said, “Can we call the … I know I’ve been drinking … I don’t even want to do this. I’ve been a deputy sheriff for 24 years.”

The officer asked Kottemann how much she had to drink, and she said, “I’ve had a lot,” according to the police report.

The officer said that after all the evidence was gathered, he arrested Kottemann for driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to the Bartow County sheriff's office, Kotteman retired Monday after 23 years of servce.
