National Transportation Safety Board investigators went to the crash site to investigate.
The two men were taken to area hospitals. The pilot was still strapped in the plane and police say the passenger managed to walk away, but he had a head injury.
Both men received trauma injuries, but both were conscious and speaking on the scene.
Channel 2's Carl Willis spoke with neighbors in the area.
Many of them say it appears the pilot may have been aiming for an empty field and neighbors are thankful.
The NTSB will determine the probable cause of the accident.
