Severe storms move out of Georgia after producing hail, strong winds

Hail severe storms Saturday

ATLANTA — Saturday saw widespread storms acoss north Georgia, some with strong wind gusts, hail and frequent lighting.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Katie Walls said some of these storms are produced 40 mph+ Wind gusts. Viewers sent Channel 2 photos of large hail that fell in some areas.

The National Weather Service confirms that a tornado touched down on Wilmington Island near Savannah earlier Saturday.

Some rain and clouds will stick around Sunday morning, but the chance for severe weather is low.

High temperatures will be in the low 80s through the weekend and into next week.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down on Wilmington Island near Savannah Saturday.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for eastern Oglethorpe County until 11:30 p.m.

Part of Putnam and now Green County are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 11:00 p.m.

Intense downpours, lightning and gusty winds are impacting Lake Country in Jasper, Putnam and Morgan counties.

A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued in southeastern Putnam County until 10:15 p.m.

A tree is down in Coweta County, blocking some lanes of Georgia 16:

Heavy rain over North Fulton is moving into Forsyth County toward Cumming. Downpours over Lawrenceville in Gwinnett are headed toward Barrow County and Winder.

Embedded storms are moving through and will continue to move northeastward through the evening, impacting outdoor plans.

Strong storms are starting to move back into metro Atlanta:

A potential lightning strike sparked a fire at a home in Cobb County. Firefighters were able to quickly get it under control:

Strong storms are currently producing hail and frequent lightning in Winder and Jefferson and storms are moving into Athens.

Storms are isolated now in North Georgia, but we're watching storms developing to our west:

Lumpkin, White and Union counties are under a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 1:45 p.m.

A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Cherokee, Dawson and Pickens counties until 1:30 p.m.
