Braves dismiss GM Frank Wren

ATLANTA — A new interim general manager is in place for the Atlanta Braves after the team released their executive vice president and GM.

It's a move Braves officials have been contemplating for months, and came less than 24-hours after the team was officially eliminated from playoff contention..

Team president John Schueurholz made the decision to fire general manager Frank Wren after 7-seasons at the helm.

Schuerholz has formed a three-man committee with Hall-of-Fame manager Bobby Cox and Braves adviser John Hart to select the next general manager.

In the meantime, Hart will serve as interim GM.

The Braves are used to winning and in a span of 6-weeks, they have gone from near the top of the division standings to 15 games out of first place, and out of the postseason.

"We haven't been eliminated from any postseason possibility.  Rather than continue to wait that you give us the opportunity to form our committee and start this transition a week sooner perhaps and we through it was the right thing," Schuerholz said.

"You talk about the timing, this gives (our) organization a chance really to take a broad look at what's out there as far as the next leadership team that's out there," Hart said.

Channel 2 Sports Director Zach Klein traded text messages with Wren earlier in the day Monday and asked him if he wanted to pass anything on to the Braves Nation?

Wren texted Klein back saying, "I'm most proud that in the last 6 seasons (opening day 2009) until today there has only been "3" days (last 3 days of 2009) where we were not playing a meaningful game. That's pretty special. The fans have always been great to me and there are really good times ahead that I wish I was going to be a part of."
