COBB COUNTY, Ga. — The Atlanta Braves and Habitat for Humanity began laying the foundation for a mother’s new home on Wednesday. It’s the first home she has ever owned.
Channel 2 Action News first told you about Quintasha Swanson in June after she learned she was approved for her first home with the Habitat for Humanity program.
Swanson works as an executive assistant to the Austell police chief. She also runs her own nonprofit.

On Wednesday, Channel 2′s Lori Wilson was there as Swanson literally lifted the framework for what will be her very first home.
“It’s really awesome because I can say my blood, sweat, and tears literally went into building our first home,” she said.
Swanson first applied for a Habitat for Humanity home a few years ago, but did not meet all the requirements at the time.
But after years of hard work, Swanson and her daughter 17-year-old daughter Angel will have a place of their own with help from Habitat for Humanity and the Atlanta Braves.
“She’s consistently supporting the community in so many ways,” Braves Vice President of Community Affairs Danielle Bedasse said. “This gives her a home base to do that.”
Bedasse said now was the right time for the organization to join the build. The construction is scheduled to be completed in nine weeks, the day after the Braves regular season ends.
“Hopefully bring all that good juju into some postseason,” she said.

The Braves like to call it building community through baseball. At the home site in Austell on Wednesday, it’s all happening one nail and board at a time.
For Swanson, the house will carry extra meaning: This will the first home that anyone in her family has owned.
“My parents haven’t left...weren’t able to leave me anything. So this will be a first for us,” she said. “And I don’t ever want them to have to worry about a place to call home.”
