Braves’ season comes to an end with Game 4 loss in NLDS to Phillies

ATLANTA — A team hasn’t repeated as World Series champions since the Yankees’ 1998-2000 run. Atlanta won’t get the chance to break that streak.

The Braves’ season ended Saturday afternoon with a Game 4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies, 8-3.

“The goal was to get into the postseason. We did and it didn’t happen,” Braves manager Brian Snitker said. “So you know what, we’ll take a couple months off and everybody meet up in North Port in March and get on and try and do it again.”

Saturday’s game was the first elimination game the Braves played since 2020 NLCS Game 7. The team did not play an elimination game during 2021 World Series run.

Atlanta’s only offense came in form of solo home runs from Orlando Arcia, Matt Olson and Travis d’Arnaud.

Meanwhile on the mound, starter Charlie Morton exited the game early with an injury. Morton had entered Saturday with a 5-0 record in elimination games. The Braves defense also had several defensive miscues in the outfield.

“Losing stinks, especially when you get a chance to finally taste the win,” Morton said.

TRENDING STORIES:

The season didn’t end the way the organization and fans hoped, but the future is bright for the Braves.

The Braves won over 100 games for the first time since 2003 and the ninth time in franchise history. Atlanta locked up almost of its core for the next decade with the big deals signed by Matt Olson, Austin Riley, Michael Harris II and Spencer Strider this year alone.

Of course, most of the focus this offseason will now switch to Dansby Swanson.

The Marietta native had the best season of his career and broke his own franchise RBI record for a shortstop. However, he is set to become a free agent this winter and Braves fans hope there isn’t a repeat of the Freddie Freeman drama.
