Local leaders, including Mayor Jim Palmer of Calhoun, Gordon County Administrator Jim Ledbetter, and Gordon County Development Authority President Kathy Johnson attended.
Mike Geiger had to stop when he passed by on Interstate 75.
“We had no idea they were here and we saw the sign and we were like, ‘Yes!’ It’s a little bit of home,” Geiger said.
The store will employee between 200 and 250 full time employees at a minimum of $15 an hour.
“I think it’s a wonderful environment to work in. I was just telling my daughter-in-law that my son needs to apply,” said Jennifer Rudy of Calhoun.
The Calhoun location marks the second Buc-ee’s travel center in Georgia, and is approximately 160 miles from the first Georgia outpost, located in Warner Robins.
The new location is more than 53,200 square feet large and offers 120 fueling positions.
