CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Three people are dead after a fiery crash near a busy highway, officials confirm to Channel 2 Action News.
The incident happened on I-75 northbound, north of Woodstock Road (Hwy 92) on Tuesday. Officials told Channel 2's Rikki Klaus the car caught fire after hitting a tree off the highway.
Sgt. Marianne Kelley told Klaus the car was hauled away from the crash site to an undisclosed location so investigators can look through it for clues.

“We have obtained some information from the inside of the vehicle," Kelley said. "We are working to use it to identify the driver and occupants of the vehicle.”
They're working to identify the victims but it hasn't been easy.
"Clearly, the fire makes it difficult to be able to determine, the vehicle owners, there was no tag on the car, trying to locate any items inside the vehicle. The vehicle is burned beyond recognition on the inside especially therefore it makes it difficult to find items that belong to anybody," Kelley said.
Because the vehicle was charred, investigators will have to sort through the wreckage to piece together ID cards or documents that were burnt in the crash.
They're asking anyone with missing loved ones to call 911.
The sheriff's office told Channel 2's Chris Jose none of the victims were children. The bodies were taken to the crime lab as investigators work to identify the victims.
The accident shut down multiple lanes before Ga. 92 at one point, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. All lanes reopened about 9:40 a.m.
However, heavy delays remain on the interstate.
