The driver of the van -- identified as 28-year-old Steve Russell Moss -- has been charged with DUI and reckless driving.

According to the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office, Moss remains hospitalized and will turn himself in when he’s released.

Authorities tell Channel 2's Tom Regan that the van was removed. A spokesman for the sheriff's office said several people were seriously injured in the crash.

"It's not something you'd expect there on your doorstep," said Dr. Mark Moers.

Moers told Channel 2 that he and his team were returning from lunch when they saw the collision outside their office.

"We started triage and see which car looked the worst and went straight to that," he said. "I think Amy went to the vehicle that hit the Moe's and started to help with that."

The crash remains under investigation.
