Channel 2′s Ashli Lincoln spoke to Jim Barron, who lives two doors down from the home where the shooting happened.
“I know that the hard-working police officer, who works hard every day to make us safe, is in critical condition,” Barron said. “It’s a hard job for those guys. I just hope he pulls through.”
Barron heard the aftermath of deputies rushing to the scene.
“I heard all the police cars coming up this narrow road,” he said.
Lincoln spoke to family members at the scene, who were too distraught to talk on camera.
Channel 2′s Bryan Mims was at Grady Memorial Hospital, where Carroll County Sheriff Terry Langly arrived around noon. Officers from multiple other agencies, including Clayton and Fulton County deputies and Georgia State Patrol troopers also arrived at the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
This is the second Georgia deputy shot in the line of duty in a matter of days. Paulding County deputy Brandon Cunningham, 30, was shot and killed Saturday night while responding to a domestic violence call. The suspect in that shooting, Jimmy Atkins, shot and killed himself.
