Georgia deputy fire chief ‘in battle for his life’ after COVID-19 diagnosis

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia community is asking for prayers as one of their own fights for his life after contracting COVID-19.

Carroll County Fire Rescue posted Sunday night that deputy chief Tommy Hopson is “in the battle of his life” with the deadly illness.

“We are joining his family in praying for his recovery and know they would appreciate prayers from the community that Tommy loves serving so much,” the county posted on Facebook.

Hundreds of people posted in the comments of the Facebook post, saying that they are praying for Hopson and his family.

“Tommy is one of the best people anyone will ever know. I am blessed to know him. My prayers for your healing Sir,” one person posted.

Hopson was promoted to deputy chief in 2020 and has been serving at the Carroll County Fire Rescue since 1990.

According to a post by the department, Hopson moved up through the ranks at Carroll County Fire Rescue from a firefighter, to station captain, battalion captain, and most recently served in the capacity of battalion chief since 2016.

“He has a passion for his job, he has a love of this County, and that shows through his daily work and the way he interacts with others,” Carroll County Fire Chief Tim Padgett wrote.
