Georgia Fire Marshal dies after battling illness for weeks

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — Carroll County Fire Marshal Nic Turner passed away after battling a recent illness. The county government announced his passing in a statement released online.

The statement read in part:

“It is with great sorrow that with the wishes of Fire Marshal Nic Turners family that we announce his passing this afternoon after battling a recent illness over the last several weeks. Our hearts are broken, he was a brother to many here in Carroll County, not only through the department he loved so much and dedicated his life to, Carroll County Fire Rescue, but throughout the public Safety community.”

According to the county, Turner first joined Carroll County Fire Rescue in 2008. He spent most of his time at Villa Rica’s Station 9, according to officials, where he rose through the ranks, eventually becoming Fire Marshal in 2019.

As Marshal, he “oversaw all Community Risk Reduction, building and life safety inspections, and fire investigations.”

At this time, the county asks for the Turner family’s privacy to be respected, “as they deal with such a tremendous loss and we will update information with arrangements as the family makes them available.”

Additionally, the county asks that people “please keep his family, friends, and fellow firefighters in your thoughts and prayers over the coming days.”
