CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — Police were forced to shut down a sale at a chicken processing plant in Carrollton Friday because it became a safety hazard.
Hundreds of people from across metro Atlanta drove to the Pilgrim’s plant to buy discounted chicken. The plant was offering 80 pounds of chicken for $46.

People began lining up outside the plant around 2 a.m.
One grandmother told Channel 2’s Lauren Pozen she drove three hours only for it to end up being a waste of gas.
Another mom said she couldn’t believe the turnout.
“I have five kids (so) $46 for 80 pounds of chicken, it goes a long way,” Taylor Shore said.

Shore drove to the plant from Villa Rica.
“I was probably a mile away when the traffic came to a stop and they were just going one car at a time,” Shore said. “There were just cars backed up everywhere.”
Carrollton police said cars were blocking driveways and there were accidents, too. It got too big and because of safety, police had to shut down the sale.
Pozen reached out to the company. A spokesperson told her that the company wanted to help the community during these difficult times, but didn’t anticipate such a large response. They apologized for the traffic congestion it caused and said they plan to reschedule the sale at a later date.
Shore said she hopes the next one will be more organized.
“You want to do what’s best for your family right now, which is now going out. (But) if you can buy 80 pounds of chicken for $46 of course you want to do that right now, but it wasn’t worth all of that,” she said.
