It was the first time the couple has celebrated their anniversary publicly.
Washington talked to the couple’s grandson, Jason Carter, who said they were celebrating more than just the couple’s remarkable milestone.
“My family is so excited to be here and celebrate my grandparents because 75 years is such a milestone, but also because of COVID we haven’t seen each other,” Carter said. “This is such a wonderful homecoming for us. I think like 50 of us are here, so it’s just wonderful to be able to celebrate in this place.”
The Carters both had special messages for each other during the celebration.
