Georgia went 41 years between its last two national championships, but the Bulldogs didn’t want Dawg Nation to wait that long again.
Kirby Smart and No. 1 UGA defeated No. 3 TCU Horned Frogs, 65-7, in the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday night.
Georgia becomes the first team to repeat as champions in the CFP era and the first team to repeat since Alabama in 2011 and 2012.

Stetson Bennett and the No. 1 Dawgs felt like they had something to prove after a slow start in the Peach Bowl semifinal game. They didn’t waste any time, scoring on all six possessions in the first half. Georgia didn’t punt until the third quarter and its 59 points are the most in the
Bennett, a former walk-on and junior college quarterback, finished with six touchdowns and 343 total yards to complete his Hollywood story and one of the most impressive careers in UGA history.
Smart called a timeout with 13 minutes left in the game to let Bennett have a final curtain call in front of Georgia fans. The 25-year-old has won the Most Valuable Player in all four playoff games that he’s played in.

Georgia also prided itself on dominating defense all season long. The Dawgs gave up a disappointing 41 points and 467 total yards to Ohio State but bounced back against TCU, allowing only a touchdown and less than 200 total yards. Javon Bullard won the defensive Most Valuable Player with his two interceptions.
With nine minutes left, Smart called another timeout to let the veterans Christopher Smith, Kelee Ringo and Jalen Carter exit the field to a round of applause.
Official plans for a UGA championship parade will be announced later this week.
