CHEROKEE COUNTY, Ga. — Cherokee County firefighters said a 10-year-old boy was able to save his family from a fire the destroyed their home early Thursday morning.
Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services said they responded to reports of a home on fire around 2 a.m. near Waleska.

“The fire was discovered by a 10-year old boy who woke up to what he believed was the sound of fireworks,” Battalion Chief Ricky Collett said. “He looked out of his bedroom window and observed the front porch and roofline heavily involved in fire.”

The boy, identified as Zizo Knight, woke up his parents and 18-month-old brother and got them out of the house.
According to his father, Adam Knight, the home’s roof caved in not long after the family got out.

The house was extensively damaged. The cause is still under investigation.
