CANTON, Ga. — A Canton man has been arrested on felony dog fighting charges after officers searched his home.

The Cherokee Marshal’s Office executed a search warrant at a home on Union Hill Road on Dec. 6 as part of an animal cruelty investigation.

Evidence at the home lead marshals to arrest of Randall Larry Thaxton, 58.

Thaxton was charged with nine counts of felony dog fighting and nine counts of misdemeanor cruelty to animals. Officers removed nine dogs from the property with the help of the Cherokee County Animal Shelter. The dogs current conditions have not been released.
