CANTON, Ga. — Police are investigating the deaths of two people who were found stabbed at a Canton apartment complex.

Officers were called around 1:30 a.m. Friday to the Laurels at Greenwood apartment complex on Hickory Flat Highway on a report of an assault. They found a man and a woman lying in the breezeway of the third floor with apparent stab wounds.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was taken to Northside Hospital where she died.

Police said the victims were brother and sister.

“We heard the screaming of the lady and the next thing we know, we see a bunch of cop cars pull up and they’re screaming,” neighbor Katie Staton said.

Police said the incident started as an argument between an estranged husband and his wife. %

“And they started arguing and he started beating the wife and the brother tried to help her, and he ended up killing her and the brother died minutes after that,” Staton said.

The suspect, identified as Oscar Tierrablanca, turned himself in Friday afternoon. Police said he is the father of the female victim’s 18-month-old child.
