CHEROKEE COUNTY,Ga. — Early Sunday morning, the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office re-opened Hickory Flat Highway after it had been shut down for two days due to a gas leak.
Highway 140 (Hickory Flat Highway) was shut down Friday afternoon for a gas leak and according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, it likely will remain closed until Sunday at the earliest.

The incident started just before 4 p.m. Friday when deputies were called out to the leak which is between Arnold Mill Road. and Grimes Road on Highway 140.
Gas crews arrived on the scene shortly after deputies did, but were struggling throughout the night to locate the actual source of the leak and could not begin repairs until they did according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The late start, meant work could not begin until late Friday night and gas workers told Sheriff’s deputies it would take several hours for the repair work to be completed.

Early Saturday morning the Sheriff’s Office put out word that the gas line repairs will take all day Saturday and could stretch into Sunday.
They are advising anyone who needs to be in the area to use Mountain Road and Arnold Mill Road as alternates to get around the road closure.
