People who came out after hearing sirens say it was heartbreaking.

“The pain just went out immediately. When I walked outside, I just grabbed my heart like, what if this was my child,?” said Phyllis Scott, director of the Kids Haven Learning Center daycare near the scene.

Neighbor Adam Toomer, who was walking by the scene, gave Jones pictures from the incident. There are markings in the road that indicate where she was hit.
