ATLANTA — Chick-fil-A is in the early stages of exploring meat-free options on the menu.
According to Amanda Norris, Senior Director of Menu Development, Chick-fil-A has been studying meat-free options for a few years. They’re working to understand what customers are interested in when it comes to vegan and vegetarian menu items.
"We're definitely aware, and I would say we're always interested in, what's happening in food," Norris told Business Insider. "Specifically … a vegetarian option or a vegan option is something we're looking at, we're thinking about, and have (done) some (research and development)."
According to Norris, it normally takes about 18 to 24 months for a new item to appear on the menu.
Chick-fil-A sent Channel 2 Action News the following statement when we asked them about the possibility for new menu items: "Chick-fil-A is still in the early stages of understanding in regard to that area of menu development."

Chick-fil-A already offers some vegan options, such as the superfood sides and waffle fries.
For the most part, people we talked with Monday around metro Atlanta were in favor of the new items.
"I think it's good. People like a lot of different choices," Chick-fil-A customer Carl Smith said. "As long as they keep their standard favorites, I think having more choices is good, too."
KFC recently announced plans to launch vegan chicken sandwiches. Buger King, Carl's Jr., Del Taco and Taco Bell have also added vegan options to their menus.
