1 child killed, another injured in interstate car crash

ATLANTA — Police are searching for the driver involved in a crash that killed one child and hurt another in a crash Sunday.

According to police, it happened in the area of northbound I-75 and Central Avenue SW around 6 p.m. Triple Team Traffic reported all lanes were blocked.

Police said a 2-year-old child died at the scene, a 5-month-old baby was taken to the hospital, and is currently listed in critical condition.

Officers told Channel 2's Nefertiti Jaquez a family of five was driving in a Ford Explorer when an unknown blue sedan, with New York license plate, swerved into their lane.

Investigators said in an effort to avoid a crash, the driver of the Explorer quickly swerved but then overcorrected, causing the SUV to barrel roll into the highway median.
