DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Cities, states and communities all over North America are getting creative in trying to lure Amazon’s second world headquarters.

Channel 2's Steve Gehlbach says one DeKalb County community wants to give Amazon something no one else can -- it's own city.

Stonecrest mayor Jason Lary says it is more than a gimmick to get noticed in the $5,000,000 dollar sweepstake to win Amazon's HQ2.

"This is real serious," Lary said. "They wanted the ability to create in a 100-acre plot. This is 345 acres."

Jerry Winters, a Stonecrest resident, said he would not mind changing addresses again, and Amazon, Georgia, has a nice ring to it.

"Say hey, where are you from? And I say Amazon, Georgia. I would not mind that at all," Winters said. "It is a huge deal. Fifty-thousand jobs possibly."

The Stonecrest City Council passed a resolution Monday night. It was signed by the mayor Tuesday, with only a couple of weeks until bids are due.

If picked, the city would need to actually buy the land and get the state legislature and governor to approve it.

"I don't think it would be a problem," Lary said.

The bids are due Oct. 19. Then, Amazon is expected to narrow down the list to a few finalists.
