ATHENS, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation and Athens-Clarke County police are currently investigating a shooting involving a deputy.
The shooting happened at Hwy. 441 and Newton Bridge Road near the Athens city limits.

Police and deputies were called to an armed robbery at a Cricket Wireless Store in Athens.
The suspect’s vehicle was spotted on Commerce Road and a chase was started with police and deputies.
When the car stopped on Newton Bridge Road, two suspects jumped out and ran off.

While chasing after them, a deputy fired at one of the suspects.
One of the suspects, Javious Mattox, 25, of Athens, was shot and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The other suspect was also taken into custody.
Two guns were found at the scene.
