ATHENS, Ga. — One person is dead following a large fire at an Athens apartment complex.
Firefighters said they were called out to the complex just after 4:30 a.m. and when they arrived at the scene off of Westchester Drive, they found one of the buildings already engulfed in flames.

Some 20 firefighters responded to the fire and worked to keep it from spreading to other buildings. Once they fire was under control, firefighters said they found a body in the apartment where they believe the fire started.
The fire caused extensive damage to at least three other apartments in the building.
The victim’s body has been taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab for an autopsy and confirmation of identification.
