UGA football player arrested on weapons, property damage charges

ATHENS, Ga. — A University of Georgia football player is facing charges ahead of Saturday’s rivalry game with Georgia Tech.

Freshman defensive back Nyland Green was arrested just before 3 a.m. Wednesday morning and charged with two counts of carrying a weapon in a school safety zone, two counts of reckless conduct and one county of criminal damage to property.

Green has since posted bond was released from the Clarke County Jail just before 12:45 p.m.

The UGA Athletic Association released a statement on Green’s arrest saying, “We have no comment as it is an ongoing legal and university disciplinary matter.”

The Covington native enrolled in UGA in January 2021 and began participating in spring drills.

Green first took the field as Bulldog in Georgia’s win over University of Alabama - Birmingham, where he was credited with two tackles. He also in UGA’s win at Vanderbilt.
