Thousands of metro Atlanta students returned to class on Monday.
The following districts started class Monday: Fulton, Gwinnett, Clayton, DeKalb, Fayette, Griffin-Spalding, Lamar, Butts, Oglethorpe, Heard, Meriwether, Thomaston-Upson counties.

Students will start the school year at the new East Clayton Elementary.
Parents and their kids came to check out the new school before the first day of class.
The school superintendent told the crowd teaching young kids starts with the right environment.
There are at least 900 students enrolled in the new school.

It was the first day of school for students in DeKalb County and the superintendent made his way to visit several schools to greet the kids.
On Monday, doors opened at Peachcrest Elementary.
Hundreds of kids had their bookbags, school supplies, their new school clothes ready to tackle the school year.
Superintendent Stephen Green walked around the school, met parents and students and listened to their concerns.
