RIVERDALE, Ga. — A south Georgia teen on the run for weeks was arrested after police said he was attempting to commit another crime in metro Atlanta.

On Dec. 30, around 3:10 a.m., Valdosta officers were called to the 700 block of Stillwater Driver, after receiving multiple calls about gunshots in the area.
One caller told dispatch that someone appeared lying on the ground near a vehicle. When police arrived, they found a 41-year-old man unresponsive on the ground.
According to VPD, the man had obvious signs of trauma and was later pronounced dead at the scene. His identity was not released.

Valdosta detectives identified 16-year-old Damirie Washington as a suspect in the murder.
On Tuesday, Riverdale police were called to a shoplifting at a Walmart in the area. Officials said, Washington was acting suspiciously and tried to hide merchandise.
Authorities used an identification system and confirmed the 16-year-old as the suspect wanted for the Valdosta murder.

Washington was arrested and taken to the Clayton County Jail.
In the homicide case, Washington is facing charges of felony murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
