Woman jumps out of car after ex-boyfriend kidnapped her from metro Atlanta Walmart, police say

LOVEJOY, Ga. — A woman is safe after police say her ex-boyfriend kidnapped her from a Walmart in Clayton County.

Witnesses told Lovejoy city police that 19-year-old Cameron Ja’Michael Hopkins approached a woman’s car with a gun at 6:15 p.m. at the Walmart on Tara Blvd.

Police said Hopkins then broke the window and dragged her out of the car and into his own before speeding off.

The victim was later identified as 18-year-old Khaliyah Jones, who had recently broken up with Hopkins.

After police announced they were searching for Hopkins, his family members began calling him. Those family members reportedly told police that Hopkins said he was upset with Jones for breaking up with him and threatened to shoot and kill her if police tried pulling him over.

Hopkins ditched his car and requested help from 33-year-old Demarco Jennings, according to police. Police said Hopkins and Jennings forced Jones into the back seat of a different car and continued driving.

Police said the car stopped somewhere in the Macon area where Jones jumped out and ran to a nearby business for help. She told police that Hopkins and Jennings were heading towards Albany.

Lovejoy police were able to find an address in Albany associated with Jennings. Albany police arrested both men. They have since been extradited back to Clayton County and are being held in the Clayton County Detention Center.

Investigators charged Hopkins with kidnapping, aggravated assault, pointing a gun at another, terroristic threats, criminal damage to property.

Jennings faces one charge of kidnapping.
